Description
The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is one of the most picturesque and interesting animals that I have ever seen in the wild. To be sure, they appear to me to be rather docile, that is until they focus on some prey and shift their transmissions into high gear. I have never seen any animal go from 0 to 70 mph as fast as a cheetah once engaged in a chase. They are beautiful, and I was most fortunate to get quite close to a number of them when in Africa in August and September 2017. This gorgeous specimen was seen in the Masai Mara of Kenya, out for a late morning stroll across the savanna. Aside from its lithe body, the cheetah may be distinguished from other big kitties by its black, tear-like streaks on its face.
