Description
While standing on the bank of the Snake River on October 4, 2011, well before dawn, I had taken care to find a position amongst well over fifty photographers jockeying for the optimum shot that morning of sunlight's first falling on the Tetons from Oxbow Bend. As Ansel Adams once said: "A good photograph is knowing where to stand." To be sure, on more than a few occasions, I have gotten all set to take a particular image, only to turn around, and, at times to my dismay and surprise, view a far better scene. While this one was not necessarily better than the one that unfolded some minutes later that morning at Oxbow Bend in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, it was indeed noteworthy in my opinion. The colors of the early morning were spectacular, with pinks, yellows, blues, the gold of aspens, and even purples on the shaded banks contributing to the palette, as I looked eastward across the river.
