Description
The sedimentary layers of Blue Mesa in Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona, lend to the numerous prevalent colors. Visible are not only bluish bentonite clay, as well as gray, purple, brown, and others, but also some of the petrified wood for which the Park is named. The Blue Mesa area was formed approximately 220-250 millions years ago. (Source: National Park Service)
