Description
This image was captured when on a helicopter ride taking me over the Zambezi River and "Vic Falls," as the locals refer to Victoria Falls, named in honor of Queen Victoria of Britain. This was shot looking west from Zimbabwe (formerly Southern Rhodesia) across the Falls, to the east, with the Zambezi Sun Hotel, where I was staying, in the background at the top left of the photo. Once across the Victoria Falls Bridge, you are then in Zambia, what was formerly Northern Rhodesia. The indigenous name for the Falls is Mosi-oa-Tunya, or the "smoke that thunders." The height of the Falls is over 350 feet, or more than twice as high as Niagara Falls in New York on the border with Canada.
