Description
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial, known as "The Wall," is a solemn tribute to those Americans who died in the War in Southeast Asia, known to most as the Vietnam War. The memorial was designed by Maya Lin. The names of 58,191 American men and women having served in the Armed Forces were listed on The Wall when it was completed in 1983. As of May 2015, there were 58,307 names, including approximately 1,200 who are Missing in Action (MIA) and are known to have been Prisoners of War (POWs), for whom all, as yet, are unaccounted (See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnam_Veterans_Memorial). By design, one of the two segments of The Wall points to the Washington Monument, while the other points toward the Lincoln Memorial. As a veteran of that war, I have visited this memorial on numerous occasions to show my gratitude and respect for those who gave their lives in service to our nation.
