Artist's Description

In early December 2016, I visited my alma mater, Virginia Military Institute. This scene is inside Jackson Memorial Hall, or J. M. Hall, which was named for General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. The painting, which is the "anchor" within the building, is by Benjamin West Clinedinst, who attended VMI. This depicts the charge by some of the 257 VMI cadets who fought in the Battle of New Market on May 15, 1864. The painting measures 18' x 23'.
