Description
In March 2011, I was aboard a small expedition ship that had sailed down the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, with numerous trips ashore at National Parks and at other sites, and then into the Gulf of Panama, prior to entering the Panama Canal for transit. On this day, the group with which I was traveling had disembarked from the ship onto two Zodiacs to view the rookeries of several different species on the islands of Otoque and Bona. The sea was a brilliant blue and the day was perfect, as we came upon four brown pelicans (Pelecanus occidentalis), most likely giving serious consideration to their next meal.
